Biography

Lori is an active member of the Firm’s Real Estate Practice and Industry Teams, the Hospitality and Tourism Industry Team, the Community Associations Industry Team, and the Telecommunications Industry Team. Lori devotes much of her practice to real estate law, assisting developers, private landowners, community associations and businesses with a variety of projects, including commercial acquisition, sale, financing, and leasing; common interest communities and community associations; and land use and zoning. As counsel to local wineries and a major national wine supplier, Lori advises clients on wine and alcohol beverage law matters, including distributor and broker agreements and regulatory issues.

Lori is counsel to a prominent national golf course owner and operator, negotiating ground leases, purchase agreements, and management agreements and counseling the client through all stages of the acquisition and financing process. Lori represents a major wireless communications provider in central and western Virginia localities, working with local officials and appearing before local boards to obtain zoning and use permits. She helps clients develop residential, commercial, and mixed-use condominiums, both new and conversion projects, guiding the declarant through the condominium registration process, including preparing the public offering statements and exhibits for submission to the Common Interest Community Board. Lori has assisted individual landowners in obtaining conservation easements eligible for tax credits under the Virginia Land Preservation Act and revalidating property eligible for local land use taxation. Lori represents the U.S. importer of a major wine producer in its corporate and real estate affairs, and the successful Virginia winery owned by its sister company in Albemarle County, as well as other wineries and vineyards in central Virginia.

A partner in the Charlottesville, Virginia office, Lori has worked on a number of newsworthy projects with the Charlottesville real estate team, including local representation to an international land developer acquiring Albemarle County vineyard acreage, and entitling a large mixed-use planned development, restructured to accomplish a major land donation to the Commonwealth. The local team has guided clients through the land use process for residential developments, commercial ventures, and shopping/lifestyle centers and provides ongoing zoning and leasing advice to commercial clients, including wireless telecommunications providers. The Charlottesville office is legal counsel to Central Virginia’s largest community association management company, which manages over 50 condominium and homeowners' associations, and to numerous area landowners, including several wineries and vineyards.
