Ms. Scanlon focuses her practice on the representation of community associations, developers, landowners and lenders in the formation and day-to-day operation of private governance structures such as property owners’ associations and condominium associations. Working with large-scale residential, mixed-use, commercial, and “new urbanism” communities throughout Virginia, she frequently advises association boards of directors on community association operations, regulatory compliance, and the amending and restating of association governing documents. She is a frequent speaker for the Virginia Chapters of the Community Associations Institute (“CAI”).
In addition to representing community associations, Ms. Scanlon regularly represents clients from a range of industries before the Virginia Department of Professional Occupation and Regulation (“DPOR”). Ms. Scanlon advises clients on an array of regulatory matters and assists clients in responding to DPOR complaints (including fair housing complaints). She has also represented community associations before Virginia’s Common Interest Community Board.
Ms. Scanlon’s real estate practice encompasses all aspects of multi-state commercial real estate transactions, including negotiating real estate acquisitions, sales, financings and leases.
Ms. Scanlon is a former Captain in the United States Army. She is admitted to practice in both Virginia and New Jersey.
