LeClairRyan Expands Global Reach with Patent Prosecution Team

LeClairRyan has bolstered the worldwide presence of our Intellectual Property team with the addition of a patent prosecution group comprised of three attorneys and five professional staff to its Sacramento office, led by partners Charles Yang and John Yang.

The strategic addition of this group brings additional West Coast talent to an already deep bench. Charles and John join a comprehensive intellectual property practice that enables our clients to protect and maximize the value of their intellectual property rights. Together, they bring a well-established team approach that combines technical fluency and business development insight.

Charles focuses his patent attorney practice on patent prosecution and related practices before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His career has included positions with Baker & McKenzie in the U.S., Hong Kong and China, where he has managed patent portfolios for a wide range of technologies, including optics, stereoscopic and holographic displays, semiconductor manufacturing, medical devices, telecommunication software, and consumer products.

A former engineer with Intel and TriQuint Semiconductor, John’s practice has primarily served the chemical, electrical, mechanical and semiconductor industries. During a legal career that has included positions at Greenberg Traurig and serving as Senior Director of Intellectual Property at a consumer products company, he has provided advice aimed at developing, implementing and aligning intellectual property strategy with business objectives.

Charles and John are now part of an IP team that includes nationally recognized practitioners in a variety of technologies, including biotechnology, plants and botany, pharmaceuticals and chemistry. LeClairRyan’s IP attorneys possess a depth of experience in post-issuance practice (interferences, reexaminations, inter partes reviews, reissues and oppositions); intellectual property and technology licensing; outsourcing contracts; and litigating nationally and internationally.
