LeClairRyan protects the US Constitution in World’s First Felony Spam Case


Everybody hates spam, including the Virginia jury that sentenced Jeremy Jaynes to nine years in prison for sending anonymous spam from a neighboring state just days after Virginia’s anti-spam statute went into effect.

Thomas Wolf and Joseph Rainsbury of Alliance Member LeClairRyan in Washington, DC and Virginia represented Jaynes on appeal. They argued that Virginia’s anti-spam statute violates the free speech guarantee of the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
